I feel this was recounted by the British… And they got a lot of things
wrong. And they’re being lazy.
Yamato wasn’t taken out by several torpedo’s, it was taken out by two
bombs- One, that was *Lucky* to blow a hole in the top deck to expose
engines, while the second, also EXTREMELY lucky, went in that same hole and
blew the engines, and the rest of the ship.
Seriously, the British, if they aren’t going to do a good job at recounting
History shouldn’t fucking do it. This is as shameful as they’re recounting
of making weapons. AKA saying the Tiger was a shit tank :I

Japanese battleships Yamato and Musashi were the largest and most powerful
warships ever built. However, they made little contributions to Japan`s
victory because the era of battleships was already over when Imperial Navy
made a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Ironically, it was Imperial Japan
which taught a lesson to the U.S. and the rest of the world that the era of
battleships was over, but Imperial Navy failed to learn the lesson, and
stuck to big-ship, big-gun advocacy in naval warfare.

Eisenhower ordered the «good» German Village bergers who lived near the
consentration camps to put on their Sunday best clothes for a celebration.
But then ordered them to carry away the rotting dead for burial. This for
allowing the Nazis to trat fellow Germans barbarically just because they
were JEWS.

Modern Battleships can swat down enemy planes, and incoming missiles, but
before that they first have to get past the Destroyers to even get close.

It was about 1943 well into the war,at night. NOTHING GOT SUNK IN N>Y>
harbour. THEY SHOULD HAVE FIRD OFF EVERY TORPEDO TUBE. INTO THE BROOKLYN
NAVY YARD, ANY HUDSON RIVER PIER, THE QUEENS USED TO DOCK THERE TO PICK UP
TROOPS AND WAR SUPPLIES. The «NARROWS» where the bridge crosses now ALWAYS
HAD SHIPS IN IT. AT NIGHT A TINY U-BOAT COULD HAVE KILLED TANKERS TO AND
FROM BAYONNE . JUST FIRE A SPREAD. I remember a U.S. destroyer blowing up
in N.Y. harbor. It shook our windows. scard the hell out of me,I was a
little kid. U might be able to google that one.

Great short-history … but its a bit presumptuous (and technically wrong)
to say they ‘bowed out in their final solute’. There are 4 Iowa class
battleships sitting pretty in memorial berths (San Pedro, Pearl Harbor,
Norfolk and Camden). They are fitted with (for) 32 Tomahawk
150kT-Nuke-capable cruise missiles (Hiroshima was 20kT), four M61 Vulcan
phalanx Gatling guns — with integrated radar target acquisition, electronic
warfare systems, integrated ‘world-wide’ tactical info systems … and all
the usual heavy lift guns. Sure, they are sitting ducks when left alone
… but that’s not how we play chess. In a balance-of-powers wherein the
US has total air superiority, these ships are highly efficient for
precision round-the-clock 2300lb shell delivery — and you dont have to
worry about anti-air missiles/guns. Aircraft carriers have long-range
reach and versatility — but its expensive. My biggest worry, sitting on
the bridge of the USS Iowa, was that we had little defense against
synchronized-attack cruise missiles. Just one missile packed with radar
jamming flack, would blind the phalanx. Ergo — its best to stay in the
company of several Aegis class destroyers/cruisers … with a couple of
subs beneath and at least one carrier on the horizon.

After the bombing of tthe Marine barracks in Lebanon I’m pretty sure the
U.S.sent a Battleship to pound the Lebanese dudes……From what I gather,
The Lebs didn’t like it very much when projectiles weighing very close
to VW’s started to drop from the skies. I would think that it disturbed
their restfull slumber after their diabolical attack…..I was very
impressed when that happened.

Yo, Bryan. My father was a U.S. Customs Inspector and while he was down at
the docks a pier full of «FUSE»[God knows what kind ] EXPLODED ON THE NEW
JERSEY SIDE . A very big piece of steel fell behind him wiping out the mens
room in the warehouse he was busy at. Everyone was out watching the fire
before the blast.

You would think it would be embarassing to be using battleships around 1990
instead of a show of power. Also I don’t understand everyone always talking
about finding a replacement for the 16″ guns that were on them. I thought
we were already beyond that around 1970 with all the guided rockets/cruise
missiles.
