They need to have a show about the uss Wisconsin bb 64 she rammed into a
destroyer she was hit by a howitzer she went through just as much as the
New Jersey and Iowa and Missouri

Politically, I am so against the renewal of the Iowa Class Battleships.
But in reality, they are just so achingly beautiful that I can’t help but
love them. And I’m ex-Australian Royal Navy, not some ignorant sh*t.
Battleships are indeed obsolete. But that doesn’t detract from their
immense beauty,

the u.s will never fully decommission the new jersey or the Missouri, until
there is space battleships, but until then, those symbols of american
patriotism and military power will remain ready to be prepped for war once
again

I hope I wasn’t the only one who teared up when they started talking about
how the New Jersey and Missouri were turned into museums instead of
ingloriously scrapped like common cargo haulers.
Those are some damn fine ships. Damn fine. The world will never see their
like again.

I would love to see an Iowa class transformed by taking off the super
structure, all guns and main deck to start. Take out the engines and put in
two nuclear power plants driving four modern screws. I wonder how fast it
could go?
The spaces that once housed the super structure and main guns could be used
for all types of goodies…. aircraft hanger for helo’s + drones…
endless modual configurations. Almost unlimited electrical power. The fact
that the hull is so well armored provides for durability, stability and
great sea keeping. Just a thought….

Beautiful works of engineering.

Hopefully sometime in the near future, I’ll be able to visit the ship named
after my state, the USS Iowa. Ever since she was saved from scrap and even
before that, I’ve wanted to see her in real life.

It’s funny that they never mentioned the other 2 Iowa class battleships
that were never completed…USS Illinois and USS Kentucky.
